ABOUT US

St. Joseph's Home Society, (otherwise referred to as N.S.S.S.), is run by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery, and is part of the registered society of Nirmala Province, located in Panvel, Maharashtra State, India.

In the 17th century, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery Congregation was founded by Fr. Jean Pierre Medaille in the historic city of Le Puy, France.  After witnessing the horrors of war, Fr. Medaille collected young girls and widows who were moved by the misery surrounding them to assist him in reaching out to suffering humanity. His venture was later officially recognized as the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s of Chambery on October 15th, 1650. The initial venture began in France but continues to spread world wide in the present day.

Two centuries later, in 1854, some of the sisters of this Congregation came to India, to a small town called Kamptee in the state of Maharashtra, where our services began.  Presently in India, the society runs a variety of services for poor, marginalized and exploited people without distinction of caste, colour, race or creed.
